Design and Comfort
The APEXINNO F1 Flip is a one of a kind design. It is essentially a halo type head strap that has a large forehead pad and a rear pad. However, its point of connection is where it becomes unique. I has two arm clips that are connected to a band that goes across the top of the Quest 3s. In the middle of the band is the connector to the head strap. It has a rotating piece that can rotate/flip up about 210 degrees.
This design takes essentially all of the pressure off of the face. It allows for the Quest 3s to just float in front of the face. Being able to flip up the Quest 3s makes it really easy to quickly switch between real life doings and VR playing. On the connecting point between the head strap and Quest 3s it has a telescopic piece where you can adjust the distance between your face and the Quest 3s.
The padding all around is all nice and thick. The forehead padding is larger than others I have tested. It is comfortable does a good job dispersing the pressure. It is all leather material so it is easy to clean off as well.
This design is great for simple usage where you don’t want pressure on the face.
Battery & Extra Game Time
This head strap comes with a removable 6600 mAh battery pack. It magnetically locks into place and has an extra little clip to secure it while in use. I never had any issues with it coming loose while playing.
The 6600 mAh capacity will give you roughly a 2.5 hour boost in play time. I found this capacity to be a bit random. Most that I have tested are either right around 5000 mAh or up at 10,000 mAh.
It technically could be a swappable battery since it is removable, however, I couldn’t find anywhere where you could purchase just an extra battery. Maybe that is something they will start doing.
Where to Buy
Verdict – Is the F1 Flip worth it?
Here is my honest opinion. The F1 Flip is great is you plan to just use it for things like Remote Desktop, watching shows, browsing the web, or other very low movement uses. As soon as I started playing any type of game with movement, the Quest 3s was moving around way too much to be enjoyable. So if you plan on using it for more intensive games, it might be an unenjoyable experience.
The extra battery capacity is nice. Being 6600 mAh gives a good amount of extra game time. I have no gripes with the padding either. Soft and decent thickness.
The other big suggestion I would give just to the company itself is to not make this head strap just specific to the Meta Quest 3s. Most head straps now are for Meta Quest 3 or 3s. But this is lacking an audio port hole that the Quest 3 has and since it has that top band that goes across the top of the head strap, it might but fit right on the Quest 3. Having a successful product just for the 3s might be difficult.
So, I think there is a lot of potential with this design and product. However, I think there are many points that need to be improved first if you do anything more than just browse the internet or watch movies/shows.
